# Why did LinkedIn disconnect, and how do I reconnect?

Source: https://help.ligosocial.com/articles/why-did-linkedin-disconnect

LinkedIn ends every app's connection after about 2 months as a routine security measure, and sooner if access is revoked on LinkedIn's side. To fix it, reconnect in **Settings**, **Integrations**, then reschedule any post that moved back to **Drafts**. Nothing you wrote is lost.

## How to reconnect

1. Open [app.ligosocial.com/settings#integrations](https://app.ligosocial.com/settings#integrations).
2. On the **LinkedIn** row, click **Refresh Connection** (shown after the connection has dropped) or **Connect** (shown if you disconnected it yourself). To renew before it expires, click **Disconnect**, then **Connect**.
3. If you clicked **Connect**, choose **Personal Profile** (or **Company Page**) and click **Continue**. **Refresh Connection** skips this step and keeps your previous account type.
4. Approve the request on LinkedIn.
5. Check that the row shows **Connected as: your name** with a new **Expires on** date.

Faster option: if we emailed you about a failed post, click the reconnect button in that email. The link works for 24 hours, only for your account, and publishes the waiting post as soon as you reconnect.

## Why it happens

- **Normal expiry.** LinkedIn connections for apps last about 2 months. This is LinkedIn's rule and applies to every tool that posts for you.
- **Access revoked on LinkedIn.** LinkedIn can end the connection early, for example after you remove LigoSocial from your LinkedIn data sharing settings or after LinkedIn asks you to sign in again.
- **You clicked Disconnect** on the LinkedIn row in Settings.

## How LigoSocial warns you

- **3 days before expiry:** an email titled "LinkedIn Connection Expiring Soon" with a **Reconnect LinkedIn** button.
- **7 days before expiry:** Settings shows **Expires in N days** in amber.
- **Before a scheduled post:** if the connection looks broken, we email you about that post.
- **In the calendar:** a "LinkedIn Connection Expired" message when you schedule.

## What happens to scheduled posts

If the connection has expired when a post is due:

- The post is **not** published. It moves back to **Drafts**, so nothing is lost.
- You get an email with a copy of the post and a one-click reconnect link. On the mobile app you also get a notification.
- After you reconnect, open the **Publishing Hub** or **Content Calendar** and schedule the post again (unless you used the one-click link, which publishes it for you).

Times in these emails are shown in UTC.

## If your post failed but LinkedIn is still connected

LigoSocial tries to publish 3 times before giving up. If LinkedIn still refuses, you get an email titled "Your Scheduled LinkedIn Post Failed to Publish" and the post returns to **Drafts**. Check the post for very long text or unsupported media, then schedule it again. If it fails twice, [contact support](https://help.ligosocial.com/articles/contact-support).

## For agencies and ghostwriters

The **Agency Dashboard** marks clients with **LinkedIn expired**. Use **Send LinkedIn reconnect reminder** to email the client a link. Only the client can reconnect their own LinkedIn.
